About CGI HK

The Organisation

The Climate Governance Initiative Hong Kong Chapter (“CGI HK”) is a local Chapter of Climate Governance Initiative (“CGI”), which is composed of, currently, over 20 Chapters in over 50 countries.

The CGI HK Community is composed of directors, including both non-executive directors (“NEDs”) and executive directors (“EDs”), and subject matter experts.

Mission

Aim

Taking part in the global drive of Climate Governance Initiative’s Eight Principles, the Climate Governance Initiative Hong Kong Chapter (“CGI HK”) is committed to reaching out to directors with the objectives of advancing knowledge, motivating action and propagating board practice in climate governance.

Action

To achieve its aim, CGI HK acts to empower, enable and engage directors in the following objectives:-

  • To gain climate awareness and skills.
  • To embed climate considerations into board decision-making.
  • To understand and act upon the risks and opportunities that the climate emergency imposes on the success of their organisations.

To support directors in climate governance, CGI HK undertakes to develop and curate regular forums and training, organised for onsite and/or online participation, and to produce and share published information.  These activities offer opportunities of learning by and interaction among NEDs, EDs and subject matter experts.

Hosting CGI HK

The Hong Kong Institute of Directors (“HKIoD”) is pleased to be tasked to host the Climate Governance Initiative Hong Kong Chapter (“CGI HK).

The Charter of CGI was adopted unanimously by CGI HK in a meeting of its Steering Committee on Wed 17 August 2022.

HKIoD is grateful to be the Hong Kong home for this important conversation amongst directors.  With members from diverse industries and corporate types, HKIoD is well positioned, both in mission and reach, to impact the agenda on climate change at the board level.
