Over the years, Hong Kong has emerged as an international financial center in its own right. Owing to historic reasons, there appears to be an expectation gap in best board practices and corporate governance between the East and the Western countries at least in the eyes of the world investing public. It is in this light that the Institute is charged with the responsibility to close the gap to ensure the healthy development of our financial market.
Broadly speaking first and foremost the Institute being a premier body for directors shall serve as a forum for interaction between its members and those of the public who are interested in promoting :- |

• Professionalism in directorship. |

In order to enhance the knowledge and capability of directors, the Institute has since 2002 provided a substantial number of programs, diploma courses and certificate courses in association with partners and universities to keep our members and the public abreast with the latest best practices in company boards and corporate governance. The Institute being first of its kind has adopted CPD hours to ensure membership quality in 2005 with overwhelming support from its members. Ultimately the Institute shall seek to get “professional director” recognized by competent authorities as a qualification to ensure the establishment of quality directors, boards and the financial market as a whole.
Long serving directors, practicing and potential directors, young executives preparing for this challenging position from listed, public, private and not-for-profit organizations are most welcome to join the Institute to share their experience, wisdom and vision, which I believe with our collective effort will help to create a better tomorrow for our corporate world and our financial market at large.
