Mission:-
"The Hong Kong Institute of Directors
is Hong Kong's premier body representing professional
directors working together to promote good
corporate governance and to contribute towards
advancing the status of Hong Kong, both in
China and internationally."
In accordance with their individual experience
as directors, members of The Hong Kong Institute
of Directors are granted the grades of Fellow,
Member or Associate. The following designations
may be used after a member's name as befits
the corresponding grade:-
- FHKIoD - Fellow, The Hong Kong Institute
of Directors
- MHKIoD - Member, The Hong Kong Institute
of Directors
- AHKIoD - Associate, The Hong Kong Institute
of Directors

A director or director equivalent is a member
of the body, generally referred to as a board
or council, which is responsible and accountable
for the strategic business direction and corporate
governance of a company or organization and makes
the decisions that determine its prosperity and
integrity.
A company or organization is defined as being
any registered private or publicly-listed company,
business unit, professional practice, academic
institute, trust, government department, local
authority, professional society, business association,
statutory organization, charity, not-for-profit
organization, etc, whose business affairs and
strategies require leadership direction.
The following are some examples, but do not constitute
an exhaustive list, of positions falling into
the category of director or director equivalent
of an organization:-
- Member of a board of directors, as an executive
director or non-executive director or independent
non-executive director, of a company or organization.
- Partner of a professional practice.
- Sole proprietor of a business.
- Chief executive officer of a company or organization.
- Directorate grade staff in a government department
or unit.
- Person responsible for the strategic direction
of a business organization.
