Training Courses

Credits Programme Leading To A Diploma

(1) Structure: This programme has been run for over 10 years, since the days of the precursor of HKIoD, i.e. the Hong Kong Branch of (UK)IoD. Seminars are offered throughout the year, at an average frequency of four per month, each taking place over 3 hours, usually in a Saturday morning or afternoon and at times in week-day evenings. Each seminar can be attended as a stand-alone session, with a Certificate of Attendance presented upon completion. There are two levels of Diploma attainable

  • Level 1: Completion of 8 seminars, which must include the mandatory sessions of The Role of Company Director I and The Role of Company Director II, qualifies for the HKIoD Diploma in Company Direction.

The total professional hours required for the Diploma include (a) 24 in class and (b) 4 in self-study of course notes.

  • Level 2: Completion of 15 seminars, which must include the mandatory sessions of The Role of Company Director I and The Role of Company Director II, plus completion of a project assignment in case-analysis qualify for the Professional Diploma in Company Direction .

The total professional hours required for the Professional Diploma include (a) 45 in class, (b) 7.5 in self-study of course notes and (c) 15-20 in project assignment of case analysis.

This programme allows attendees the flexibility of selecting seminars from a defined schedule to suit individual circumstances. Those who have attained Level 1 may proceed to further attendance to qualify for Level 2.

(2) Languages: A majority of the seminars offered are conducted in either Cantonese or English, in a 50/50 ratio. Presentation materials and handout notes are in English for the English seminars and in a combination of English and Chinese for Cantonese seminars. Selected seminars are conducted in Putonghua. If demand increases, more Putonghua seminars will be organised. To make up the total requirement of seminars for a Diploma or Professional Diploma, an attendee may select to attend a combination of courses of any language.

(3) Beyond the Diploma: In the spirit of continuing professional development, even after attainment of a Diploma or Professional Diploma, an individual is encouraged to attend additional seminars selectively in order to remain up-to-date with current director practices.
